One jogger (shirtless, wearing headphones and connected to a leashed dog) passed me on the trail at the south end of the spillway. Many more ducks and other waterbirds were seen here in the shallow flooded areas of the marsh and at relatively close range in comparison with WSEL. From the narrow roadside parking area next to the north gate, I walked south across the concrete spillway to the riparian - coastal sage scrub at the opposite side. Most of the waterbirds appeared to be in the distant central and southern portion of marsh and lagoon, beyond the effective range of my 10x42 binocular (0915-1015 hrs.).
